Spartans Youth Work Space

Spartans Youth Work Space

Client : Spartans Community Football Academy
Location : Edinburgh
Value : To Be Determined
Completion Date : To Be Determined

Since 2008, Spartans Community Football Academy has been working with local community partners to deliver programmes and initiatives that have a lasting and positive social impact in North Edinburgh. Spartans is not just about football, it supports young people, often from disadvantaged circumstances with safe places to play, socialise and grow.

After a feasibility study that considered ways to refurbish the existing youth work space in second-hand modular cabins, it was decided that the best long term outcome was to build a new facility on the same ground. The result is a bespoke building with its own outdoor spaces, design in consultation with the staff and young people at Spartans. It will provide an enhanced kitchen to get young people involved in preparing and sharing meals, quiet and therapy rooms, flexible activity space that links to the garden with a covered terrace and a covered outdoor ‘art cave’. The proposed building also has a roof terrace that provides additional activity space and offers elevated, safe viewing across the main football pitch.

The building is heated from an ASHP, has a PV array on the roof providing electricity and has insulation levels that exceed current requirements.

This project is a collaboration with Akiko Kobayashi.

The project is due to commence on site in the Autumn of 2023
