Commercial Projects

The commercial sector is very broad and this is reflected in the portfolio of Lee Boyd work that spans from offices and restaurants to health spas and hotels; projects which include both new build and in many cases refurbishment of existing and often listed buildings. What characterises our work is an ability to quickly understand the brief and the context, optimising the use of a site or building to create a quality of environment that exceeds the client’s expectations, whether for work or leisure.

Our work with existing buildings is extensive and in the commercial sector the task is often to balance the challenges of the existing architectural character and layout with the aspiration for contemporary and environmentally efficient accommodation.

Much of our work in this sector involves repeat clients who appreciate the level of service and expertise provided.

Bars & Cafes

Interior design of bars and restaurants is a very particular skill and requires a careful balance of signature with practicality to ensure that the environment is both conducive and comfortable for eating and drinking. Lee Boyd has worked on an eclectic mix of projects in this field and has used our experience and innovation to provide clients with interiors that reflect the brand and quality of the offer to their customers. These projects have included: lighting design, art installation, furniture design and graphics.

Leisure & Retail

Our work in the retail and leisure sectors illustrates our ability to respond creatively to complex briefs and challenging sites; making best use of the budget and space available to heighten brand awareness and create a tailored solution to each new brief.

Our crafted approach and attention to detail is particularly well suited to these sectors, where the innovative use of materials, lighting and colour can greatly enhance the customer experience and improve retail sales. We have experience of working within a number of retail centres across Scotland and understand the programming and logistical issues that require to be addressed when carrying out work requiring detailed landlord consent.

Our retail design is not restricted to the commercial sector and is often a key component of many public projects where our complementary skills in conservation, furniture and exhibition design allow such facilities to be well integrated.

Hotels and Apartments

Lee Boyd has experience working with clients in the leisure and tourism industry on a variety of hotel refurbishment and extension projects that have also included bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Many of these projects have involved work to existing and often listed property where there is a requirement to maximise the potential of the existing layout and to understand how to navigate through the limitations of older buildings.

Offices and Fit-out

Through our work for HBoS alone over the last 12 years it is very apparent how office design and the culture of the working environment is changing to meet the demands of modern practices, lifestyles and the benefits of ever changing technology. Over that period Lee Boyd has kept up to date with both the trends and the technical standards necessary to maintain comfortable and attractive offices, whether in new or old buildings.

The scale of our experience ranges from multi million headquarters to small scale start up units and a great deal of painstaking space planning in between. Our projects for Adobe and Port of Leith Housing Association also demonstrate our ability to recognize the potential of a building to support the identity and personality of the company and how good office design can still create distinct architecture.

Poppy Factory

Some of our projects don’t fit into a strict commercial category and often these are challenging, engaging and rewarding, giving our staff a wide range of experience when working on them. Projects such as The Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory involved the refurbishment and redesign of a myriad of different functions such as offices, factory, storage, and machinery spaces.
