Lady Haig Poppy Factory Refurbishment
Lee Boyd have been working with the Lady Haig Poppy Factory in Edinburgh since 2017, supporting the refurbishment and upgrading of their Poppy Factory and the associated offices for Poppy Scotland.
Prior to the main refurbishment works, an enabling works contract was commissioned to remove all the asbestos from the building. This was followed by the replacement of all 11 sections of the factory roof with new slate and new modular rooflights by the Contractors B&D Roofing. The original ‘Green Peggy’ slates to the Warriston Road buildings have been replaced with new Westmoreland slates, coursed and sized to match the original slates, with the remaining cement tiled roof being replaced with natural Cupa Heavy 3 slates. Sections of flat roofing and flashings have been replaced with high-performance waterproofing membranes.
Internally, Hatrick Bruce Contractors are progressing with the full refurbishment of the building. Changes to the internal layout are being made to physically link the Factory to the Poppy Scotland offices, improve working conditions and the visitor experience. The Poppy Scotland reception has been replaced and new toilets, lift and ramps all contribute to make the building more accessible for all.
Works are scheduled to complete in the Summer of 2021.
